For the compact bone I decided to try a method called discharge, which is when the dye is sort of bleached out of the fabric, so I dyed fabric for the first time so when I print my design will be discharged over the blue fabric and appear white.

I figured out my repeat for the compact bone print, and now I am creating the photo stencil.

I began my next design, compact bone, which is what makes bones hard. I decided to do this one by hand because I think this one would look good with the hand drawn quality.

For the muscle tissue print I knew that I wanted to play with volume and constraint because thats what is a very unique quality of muscle, how certain parts of your body you want bigger and bulging and others you want tight. I knew I wanted to use the top layer of silk organza that I printed to make very voluminous transparent sleeves that are supposed to mimick muscular arms, but I also want it to be tight and constraining and the stomach to mirror a six pack. So I am going to make a top similar to the silhouette below but with a wider waist band, with sleeves resembling the second picture.

I have been having a hard time figuring out how I want to display my work for the exhibition. I thought it was important that the clothes were shown on the human form, but didn’t feel I had enough pieces to do a runway show. It also was hard trying to figure out how I would display the information on each outfit and how it correlates with its body part. My collaborator Mai had mentioned earlier in the year doing a look book of all my pieces for my portfolio, and I decided that it would be a perfect way to show the clothes on people and put all the information about the body parts. This way I can put the clothes on dress forms, which is easy to display, and also have look books to hand out which will show the clothes on people, as well as information on how it relates to each body part, the prints before they were turned into clothes, along with initial sketches and ideas for each piece.
I began cutting out and using my connective tissue print to make the romper, it is pretty much put together, but I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do with the neckline.

When I added the last layer I ended up really liking the way it turned out. I love that even though its supposed to be muscle tissue, it has a giraffe/animal print look to it.

The stencils for these colors were extremely tedious to cut out. I wasn’t sure if I liked the way it was turning out at this point, I regretted not leaving it as a simple line print.
